National Geographic
The interesting hobby of birdwatching is attracting a record number of new devotees. With our million-selling Field Guide to the Birds of North America, National Geographic has been addressing their need for clear and reliable information for 25 years. Now, in order to better serve the growing market, we've tweaked our field-guide structure to include information specific to birders east and west of the Rocky Mountains. These new volumes include illustrated accounts of the many plumages and life phases, as well as hundreds of color-coded range maps, and provide in-depth information on every bird legally reported in the designated area.
These guides have distinct qualities that set them apart from the competition and promise to attract a new generation of readers: The text is visually accessible because to a full-color visual index printed on the inner covers, which is a true help to starting and intermediate birders. The important physical characteristics of birds are highlighted in annotated artwork, making identification easy. Thumb-tabs assist readers in quickly finding information. Durable coverings with integrated quick-reference flaps that function as location marks withstand outdoor use. The Field Guide to the Birds of Eastern North America includes 619 species, 560 new distribution maps, illustrated descriptions for 85 casual and incidental birds, and a 70-bird appendix.
